The
second two weeks in July are traditionally the time to go on holiday.
At the top one side is dark grey and wet which sometimes is the
weather in Glasgow at this time. The other side is bright and sunny
as probably people have gone abroad to sunnier climes. In the river
the worlds last ocean going paddle steamer the Waverley sails on
her traditional way "Doon the Watter" to Clyde holiday
resorts.
Brian
McGeoch, then education officer of the Art Galleries worked with
a group of schoolchildren to create all of the things associated
with going on holiday. At the centre of the banner is a magnificent
portion of fish and chips in the traditional
newspaper wrapping. If you study the illustration carefully
you will see that the prizes on offer on the coconut shy are Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtle dolls...all the rage that summer.
